'Grabbing by the Collar and Insulting in Front of Colleagues'... Eulji University Hospital in Uijeongbu Reveals Nurse Bullying ('Taeum')
Police, "Applied Charges of Insult and Assault, Perpetrator Sent to Prosecution"
Ministry of Employment and Labor, "Plans to Issue Correction Orders on Hospital Labor Issues"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The police investigation revealed that insults and assault were involved in the so-called 'nurse Taeum' incident that occurred last month at Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital.
The Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency announced on the 31st, "Among the two accused related to the death of the nurse at Eulji Hospital, one will be sent to the prosecution on charges of 'insult and assault'."
The police investigation found that senior nurse B, who worked in the same ward as the deceased nurse A (24), had insulted and assaulted A around October.
The police confirmed the criminal charges against B through investigations of dozens of witnesses including A’s fellow nurses, reviewing three months of CCTV footage, digital forensics on A’s mobile phone, and questioning the accused.
The police identified scenes where B grabbed A by the collar and harshly reprimanded and insulted A in front of colleagues.
Previously, victim A was found dead in the hospital dormitory on the 16th of last month. The bereaved family raised issues of 'workplace harassment' with the hospital, and both the hospital and the family filed complaints with the police, requesting an investigation.
A, who had been a nurse for seven months, was known to have complained about work stress during phone calls with her boyfriend.
A’s family and acquaintances alleged, "Evidence of the so-called 'Taeum' was found on A’s mobile phone," and claimed, "A was driven to death due to excessive workload and workplace harassment."
In particular, A’s colleagues claimed, "Some senior nurses harassed A by throwing hospital charts and publicly insulting her."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Employment and Labor is investigating whether there were any unfair labor practices such as extended working hours or forced labor of nurses at Eulji University Hospital.
