The ‘2021 Corporate Social Responsibility Conference’ is an event hosted by the Korean Embassy in China and jointly organized by the Korean Chamber of Commerce in China and KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency). It encourages CSR activities of Korean companies in China and shares excellent CSR cases between companies of both countries. This year’s event was attended by Ambassador Jang Ha-sung to China, Doo Jin-woo, CEO of Pumeituo Food, officials from related Korea-China organizations, and representatives of award-winning companies.
The awards were decided by an evaluation committee composed of CSR experts from both Korea and China, who reviewed the CSR activities of Korean companies in China over the past year. A total of 21 exemplary companies were selected across three categories: Green Development, Regional Contribution, and Inclusive Growth.
Pulmuone’s Chinese subsidiary, Pumeituo Food, received the Excellence Award in the Green Development category for the achievements of the ‘Eco-friendly Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion Project’ at its Beijing factory.
Pulmuone has installed and manages a large-scale wastewater treatment facility at its Beijing tofu production plant to eliminate negative factors affecting the ecosystem.
Due to the nature of tofu production, the factory uses a large amount of water and faces significant wastewater discharge issues. To address this, Pulmuone installed advanced wastewater treatment facilities at the Beijing plant and fulfills its social responsibility through thorough eco-friendly wastewater treatment plant management.
Through additional facility investments, Pulmuone’s Beijing plant plans to increase its wastewater treatment capacity from the current 500 tons per day to 1,250 tons per day by May next year, striving to prevent environmental pollution around the factory.
