Archbishop Tutu's Body Enshrined at St. George's Cathedral... Farewell for Two Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] The body of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, a symbol of the black human rights movement in South Africa, was laid to rest at St. George's Anglican Cathedral in Cape Town on the 30th (local time), two days before the funeral, according to AFP and other news agencies.
A bouquet of tulips was placed on the pine coffin containing the archbishop's body. His successor, Bishop Thabo Makgoba, fellow priests, and his wife, Leah Tutu, were present.
Outside the cathedral, a line of mourners formed from early morning. The funeral committee plans to extend the visitation period by one more day due to concerns that overcrowding could lead to accidents.
After the public visitation, Archbishop Tutu's body will be cremated and buried, and a funeral mass will be held on the 1st of next month.
