[Haenam=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been finally selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's '2021 Regional Hub Smart City Development Project' competition.
According to the county on the 30th, the project site is the Solar City industrial complex in Sanim-myeon, Haenam-gun, where up to 24 billion KRW (15.6 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) will be invested over the next three years.
The regional hub smart city development is being promoted to create regional hubs for the smartification of cities nationwide, redesign urban spatial structures, and expand the smartification of urban services.
By establishing an organic cooperative system involving the government, local governments, and private companies to build smart infrastructure and services, the project aims to develop an optimal model through private sector participation and the introduction of innovative technologies, establish a small and medium-sized city-type smart city model, and spread smart city technologies by making it a hub and expanding to nearby areas.
The goal is to lead fundamental changes in cities by comprehensively integrating not only individual technologies and services but also urban infrastructure, spatial structure, urban planning, and urban management.
Starting next year, four sites will be selected annually, with a total of 16 sites to be selected by 2025 and developed as regional hub smart cities.
The regional hub smart city development project to be promoted in the Solar City industrial complex will be themed 'Future City Standard, Solar City,' and plans to establish a foundation for smart infrastructure and services such as electric vehicle sharing services, shared vehicle autonomous parking services, autonomous shuttle buses, Solar City metaverse implementation, and solar-powered compressed waste treatment facilities.
In particular, last October, an investment agreement worth 570 billion KRW was signed with The Good Co., Ltd. to create a European Village theme park, developing a complex resort facility covering 495,000㎡ (150,000 pyeong) including country houses, hotels, and shopping malls, emerging as a key hub for tourism in the southwest region.
Solar City industrial complex has the urban vision of a garden city, solar energy city, and smart city, aiming to create a smart city with self-sufficient functions such as jobs, tourism, housing, education, and medical care. This includes the establishment of an RE100 exclusive pilot complex that supplies 100% of the electricity for the entire industrial complex from renewable energy, as well as the creation of Sanijeongwon, a complex cultural space covering about 500,000㎡ (160,000 pyeong).
County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, "Being selected as a regional hub smart city realizes the vision of the industrial complex and signals a new positive sign for revitalizing the local economy," adding, "We will spare no support to provide regionally specialized smart services, establish a new regional economic foundation, present a new town-type standard model, and promote national balanced development."
