Gwangyang Steelworks Opens Platform for Sharing Smart Technologies Using Metaverse
Exhibition of Outstanding Cases from the 2021 Second Half Smart Technology Competition in the Virtual World
Enhanced Interactive Communication through Real-time Q&A Meetings Expected to Promote RPA Technology Application in Work
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks (Director Kim Jiyong) created a communication platform within the metaverse to introduce excellent use cases of RPA technology and share achievements.
The metaverse is a compound word of Meta, meaning processing or abstraction, and Universe, meaning the real world, referring to a three-dimensional virtual world where real-world activities take place.
Gwangyang Steelworks held a smart technology exhibition using the metaverse and introduced eight excellent office automation cases, including the 'Automatic Notification System for Hydrogen Chloride Gas Emission Concentration through RPA,' which was selected as the best project in the second half of 2021 Smart Technology Competition.
In particular, rather than simply transferring the excellent case introduction materials into the metaverse, individual spaces were prepared for each presenter to conduct real-time Q&A meetings with participants, attracting attention.
Additionally, a separate space was created where attendees could watch a special lecture on
Employees who participated in the metaverse exhibition left comments in the guestbook such as, “It was my first time experiencing the metaverse, and it was fresh and fun,” “Thank you for providing an opportunity to experience new technology,” and “It was great to easily explore various smart technologies, and the real-time communication with presenters was special.”
Through this metaverse exhibition, Gwangyang Steelworks expects to overcome the limitations of the previous one-way technology explanation sharing method and significantly expand a smart working culture by enhancing interactive communication effects.
Meanwhile, Gwangyang Steelworks plans to expand the application of the metaverse to various competitions sharing innovation tasks and achievements such as smart technologies, department town hall meetings explaining major company policies or issues, and freely listening to employees’ opinions, thereby creating a more meaningful and differentiated communication platform.
