Assemblyman Kim Hoe-jae Appointed Chairman of the Democratic Party's Election Committee Education Gap Resolution Committee
Breaking the Cycle of Polarization Leading to Wealth Inequality
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Kim Hoe-jae, a member of the National Assembly (Yeosu-eul, Jeonnam), has been appointed as the chairman of the Education Gap Resolution Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea's Great Transformation Election Committee.
The Education Gap Resolution Committee will be co-chaired by Assemblyman Kim Hoe-jae and Wi Gye-jeom, former president of the Korea National Open University Alumni Association, and will work on developing policies and discovering pledges to resolve the education gap deepened by COVID-19 and restore fairness in education opportunities.
Although the education gap existed to a considerable extent even before COVID-19, there have been continuous concerns that the education gap has worsened due to restrictions on in-person classes caused by the pandemic.
In fact, according to the ‘Survey on Remote Education in Elementary and Secondary Schools’ conducted on 10,883 teachers by the Korea Education and Research Information Service on the 26th, more than half of the teachers evaluated that the learning level differences among students increased due to remote classes in the first semester of this year.
Assemblyman Kim Hoe-jae said, “We will break the vicious cycle where wealth disparity leads to education disparity, and education disparity leads back to wealth disparity,” adding, “I will assist candidate Lee Jae-myung in restoring fairness in education opportunities and laying the foundation for Korea’s great transformation.”
