2021 Awards for Sports Merit Honoring Contributors in Goheung

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] On the afternoon of the 29th, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (County Governor Song Gwi-geun) held an awards ceremony at Palyongsan Hall in the county office to honor sports contributors, outstanding school principals, and excellent athletes who shone in 2021, and presented fund certificates.

At the ceremony attended by Kim Jeong-hee, Superintendent of Goheung Office of Education, Ahn Jeong-min, Chairman of Goheung-gun Sports Council, and about 20 awardees, Kim Du-seong, director of the county sports council, received the governor’s commendation from the county governor, and 15 executives and staff of sports organizations received commendations from the county governor.

Despite the difficult conditions due to COVID-19, six school sports teams and 33 outstanding athletes who achieved excellent results in national competitions were granted support funds of about 33 million KRW from the Goheung-gun Sports Promotion Fund.

Representing schools, Goheung-dong Elementary School (Principal Shin Young-ok) received 4.5 million KRW in funds as 15 students won awards in soft tennis (Jeonggu) and athletics events in 2021, and Jeong Jae-wook, a second-year student at Goheung High School, received a 500,000 KRW scholarship fund for winning three crowns at the National Student Weightlifting Competition.

The Goheung-gun Table Tennis Association (Chairman Ryu Nam-jin) also demonstrated leadership in the development of Goheung-gun sports promotion by donating 2 million KRW annually for three consecutive years to the Goheung-gun Sports Promotion Fund.

County Governor Song Gwi-geun said at the awards ceremony, “I thank all the contributors who spared no effort for the development of Goheung-gun sports despite the difficult circumstances of COVID-19, the Table Tennis Association that donated funds, as well as the schools and student athletes.”
