Ministry of SMEs and Startups Announces Mid- to Long-Term R&D Support Program... Up to 6 Years of Stable Technology Development Support
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 30th that it is recruiting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) wishing to participate in next year's 'Business-Linked Technology Development Support Project' and 'Consortium Technology Development Support Project.'
The Business-Linked Technology Development Support Project provides continuous support for two types of projects?startup growth technology development, technological innovation development, and commercialization technology development?according to the demands of SMEs, allowing them to focus on technology development based on their business strategies.
In June, the Ministry newly introduced the Business-Linked Technology Development Support Project as an open-application type to provide phased support based on the mid- to long-term roadmap of individual SMEs' core products and to guarantee autonomy in technology development.
By creating an environment where SMEs can stably conduct research activities and develop innovative technologies, the ministry plans to drive rapid commercialization and achievement of results.
The Business-Linked Technology Development Support Project will select 10 tasks with differentiated technologies and high potential for early commercialization. Selected projects are expected to receive up to 3.2 billion KRW in support over a maximum of six years, creating new growth engines for new industries through innovative technology development and high value-added creation.
The Consortium Technology Development Support Project supports multi-party collaborative projects where technologically excellent SMEs collaborate with large and medium-sized enterprises or research institutions to achieve common goals.
SMEs can move beyond individual project focus to set joint objectives, pioneering new markets and producing groundbreaking results through collaboration between companies and institutions and diverse technology convergence.
The support areas are selected considering future growth potential and R&D investment policies, including materials, parts, and equipment, the Korean New Deal (digital and green), and BIG3 sectors. A specialized project management team will provide close support for R&D and commercialization of selected projects.
Consortia consist of up to four detailed tasks, and 10 consortium projects will be selected by focusing on the innovativeness of designated call projects and the roles of participating companies and institutions. Selected projects will receive support ranging from a minimum of 1.6 billion KRW over two years to a maximum of 3.8 billion KRW over four years.
