[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] Mirae Asset Global Investments announced on the 29th that the net assets of the ‘TIGER US Philadelphia Semiconductor Nasdaq ETF’ have surpassed 1 trillion KRW. It is the largest semiconductor-themed ETF listed on the Korea Exchange.
As of the previous day, the net assets of the TIGER US Philadelphia Semiconductor Nasdaq ETF stood at 1.0613 trillion KRW. This ETF was listed on April 9th of this year, and its net assets exceeded 1 trillion KRW in just 8 months and 20 days. Individual investors drove the ETF’s growth with net purchases of 678.8 billion KRW.
This ETF invests in US companies related to semiconductors. Semiconductors are essential elements of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The semiconductor industry is integrated into the value chain of major themes of the 4th Industrial Revolution such as artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, and autonomous driving. Additionally, with digital transformation, new infrastructure and digital devices are emerging, increasing semiconductor consumption.
The ETF’s tracking index is the ‘PHLX Semiconductor Sector INDEX’ calculated by the US NASDAQ OMX Group. The index consists of the top 30 companies by market capitalization listed on US exchanges that are engaged in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and sales. The index includes ‘Qualcomm’, a leading communication chip company that developed 1st and 2nd generation mobile communication technology CDMA; ‘Intel’, a comprehensive semiconductor company with core business in CPUs and direct semiconductor design and production capabilities; ‘Nvidia’, a GPU market leader specializing in graphics card design; and ‘TSMC’, the world’s largest foundry company based in Taiwan.
