The 62nd Gyeongnam Provincial Sports Festival Venue is Tongyeong ... Returning After 20 Years

Tongyeong is hosting the event again after more than 20 years since the 40th Gyeongnam Provincial Sports Festival in 2001.
The Gyeongsangnam-do Sports Council selected Tongyeong City as the host city for the Provincial Sports Festival following the resolution of the 5th board meeting on the 28th.
About 20,000 athletes from 18 cities and counties are expected to participate in the 62nd Provincial Sports Festival, which will be held over four days.
A total of 41 events, including three demonstration sports, will take place, and considering the conditions of gymnasium facilities, some events will be held in nearby cities and counties.
Tongyeong City stated that hosting the festival is the result of building its reputation as a sports city by successfully hosting various international and national sports competitions such as triathlon, yacht, and soccer tournaments.
The city also said that the efforts by the city and the Tongyeong City Sports Council to revitalize the local economy, which was depressed due to COVID-19, have paid off.
The city expects that hosting the Provincial Sports Festival will build local sports infrastructure and generate an economic effect of approximately 11.2 billion KRW through the use of accommodation facilities and food businesses during the event period.
Sports Council Chairman Ahn Huijun said, “With the effects of building sports infrastructure and expanding the base of sports participants, Tongyeong City will have an opportunity to grow further as South Korea’s leading sports industry city.”

A city official said, “We will form a dedicated team to prepare for the Provincial Sports Festival, secure supplementary budget in the first half of next year, and proceed with preparations such as renovating old sports facilities and expanding facilities,” adding, “We will make it a grand festival for the citizens of Tongyeong and the 3.5 million residents of Gyeongnam Province.”
