On the 28th, Judge Lee Jae-kyung of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 10 announced that Kim (25), who was indicted on charges of embezzlement in the course of business and computer fraud, was sentenced to 8 months in prison.
Kim was prosecuted on charges of embezzling a total of about 4.28 million won in cash and gift certificates from safes while working alone during his short-term part-time job at seven convenience stores in Seocho-gu, Seoul, from July to October.
He was also charged with obtaining a profit worth about 3 million won by inputting false information into the POS terminal as if he had received money, even though customers had not actually paid for online cultural gift certificates at the convenience stores.
The judge stated, "The defendant repeatedly committed crimes by moving between several convenience stores, working short-term jobs, embezzling cash, and falsely inputting recharge amounts into the POS terminal," and "He has a history of multiple punishments for similar crimes and committed recidivism seven times during the probation period. There are multiple victims, and damages have not been recovered for five victims."
