The Light Extinguished by Accident Shines Again After Over 2 Years... Ulsan Bridge, Free Toll for Two Days in the New Year with Re-illumination
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Ulsan Bridge will be toll-free for two days starting January 1st of the new year.
Ulsan City and Ulsan Harbor Bridge Co., Ltd. announced on the 25th that to commemorate the relighting of the Ulsan Bridge scenic lights, the entire bridge and tunnel sections will be free of charge on January 1 and 2 next year.
The Ulsan Bridge scenic lights had been off for 2 years and 3 months after being damaged by flames during the explosion accident of the Stolt Groenland oil tanker at Yeompo Pier on September 28, 2019.
After the accident, Ulsan City and Ulsan Harbor Bridge conducted a detailed structural safety inspection and design services for Ulsan Bridge, and first carried out repair work on 1,116 scenic lights.
Although Ulsan City faced difficulties in the two-year compensation agreement with the shipowner responsible for the accident, it was amicably concluded without administrative lawsuits or legal disputes with the shipowner last September, and the scenic lights will be turned on again on this day.
Ulsan Harbor Bridge stated that there are no structural safety issues with the main facilities of Ulsan Bridge and plans to complete final restoration work by next year, including hanger cable repairs, guardrail and structure repainting.
The relighting ceremony for the Ulsan Bridge scenic lights will be held on the last day of this year, December 31, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ulsan Bridge Observatory.
From 0:00 on January 1, 2022, to 24:00 on January 2, the Ulsan Bridge will be operated toll-free for two days.
Due to the lights being off after the Yeompo Pier ship explosion accident, the night view from the Ulsan Bridge Observatory, one of Ulsan's 12 scenic spots, had disappeared, and the free passage is known to be a form of compensation.
