According to the project group on the 24th, through a demand survey on the challenges faced by the region, they sought solutions to local problems by utilizing university resources and operated a regional cooperation project to prepare community alternatives through industry-academia-government-civil cooperation. The ‘Hope Connection Senior Safety Handcart Project’ was promoted together with the Jeonnam Social Innovation Platform to support seniors struggling due to social polarization in the COVID-19 era.
The donation ceremony was supported by a prototype design and production team consisting of Professor Kim Young-ho from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Mokpo National University and two students, as well as a capstone design team led by Professor Ahn Byung-won from Mokpo Maritime University.
In particular, based on a demand survey of the elderly, the handcarts were equipped with various ideas such as installing handle brakes, modifying the structure for scrap paper loading, changing the handcart material, and attaching warning lights powered by solar panels. These innovations were patented.
Based on this, the Muan Regional Self-Support Center recommended two recipients for the handcart donation, who received the handcarts.
Lee Sang-chan, director of LINC+, said, “I hope this donation ceremony serves as an opportunity for students to think about contributing to the local community,” and added, “I hope the students’ prototypes will be referenced in the handcart support budget allocated to local governments such as Mokpo City, achieving exemplary effects in linked projects.”
