Putin: "Europe Gas Price Surge Is Not Russia's Fault"
[Asia Economy Reporter Geum Bo-ryeong] Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized on the 23rd that "it is unfair to blame Russia" for the recent surge in gas prices in Europe.
According to foreign media including the Associated Press, President Putin made these remarks at the annual press conference held at the Manege in Moscow on the same day.
President Putin expressed that Russia is ready to help with Europe's gas issues. However, he stated that the gas problem was caused by Europe itself and that Europe must resolve it on its own.
He also explained that the Russian state-owned gas company Gazprom is not related to the sharp rise in gas prices in Europe.
President Putin said, "Countries such as Germany, which have long-term contracts with Gazprom, are currently enjoying much lower prices and are even profiting by selling gas to neighboring countries." Along with this, he claimed that some Russian gas sent to Germany is suspected to be resold to Ukraine in the end.
