Haenam-gun Awarded 'Best Excellence' in Food and Horticultural Evaluation of Agricultural Products in Jeollanam-do

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do received the Grand Prize in the 2021 Jeollanam-do Food and Horticulture Evaluation.

According to the county on the 23rd, the Food and Horticulture Evaluation was conducted for the first time this year to enhance the performance of food and horticulture projects in Jeollanam-do, serving as an opportunity to once again recognize the status of Haenam-gun, the top agricultural county in the nation.

The evaluation assessed performance in three fields and seven items: the food policy sector, including rice productivity improvement, expansion of agricultural policy insurance enrollment, and efficiency of agricultural machinery support projects; the horticulture industry sector, including expansion of new facility greenhouse areas and fresh agricultural product export performance; and the smart agriculture sector.

Haenam-gun, which has the largest cultivated area nationwide, achieved 101% of its target with 197 hectares of alternative crop cultivation this year, and also received favorable evaluations as agricultural policy insurance enrollment, such as crop disaster insurance, increased by 23% compared to the previous year.

Additionally, this year, facility greenhouses increased by 12%, and fresh agricultural product exports rose by 44%, significantly expanding the foundation for realizing high value-added agriculture.

In particular, this year, six projects totaling 14.5 billion KRW were selected for public contests, including a 10 billion KRW vegetable shipment facility support project, Jeollanam-do’s first domestic wheat dedicated drying and storage facility construction, and a food crop joint management body development project, enhancing the long-term development potential in the food and horticulture sectors.

County Governor Myung Hyun-gwan stated, “This serves as an opportunity to once again recognize Haenam’s status as the largest production area for food and horticultural crops such as rice, barley, wheat, sweet potatoes, and cabbage,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen support for agriculture and rural areas to build a prosperous and livable farming community.”
