Jeju Samdasoo Achieves 300 Billion KRW in Sales for the First Time Since Launch
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation, which produces and sells Jeju Samdasoo, announced on the 23rd that this year Samdasoo's sales exceeded 300 billion KRW, marking the highest sales since its launch.
The Jeju Development Corporation evaluated that the significance of Samdasoo's 300 billion KRW sales goes beyond the brand level and is meaningful in that it is growing the entire bottled water industry market.
Jeju Samdasoo, first launched domestically in March 1998, grew into a 100 billion KRW brand in 11 years by 2009, and recorded sales of 300 billion KRW, tripling in 12 years.
The entire bottled water industry also experienced remarkable growth, from 112 billion KRW in 1998 to an estimated 1.2 trillion KRW this year.
Due to reduced outdoor activities caused by COVID-19 this year, the overall bottled water industry size slightly declined, while Jeju Samdasoo recorded an increase, maintaining a market share of about 42.5% (cumulative as of November).
Meanwhile, Jeju Samdasoo declared the eco-friendly management vision 'Green Hall Process' management principle early this year and announced a 50% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by 2025. In June, it launched 'Jeju Samdasoo Green,' the first product with the label removed, and self-assessed that it contributed to expanding not only bottled water but also other beverage products.
Also, in October, it became the first in the domestic bottled water industry to be certified as an accredited drinking water quality inspection institution, and it is focusing more on quality control by expanding and newly establishing an R&D Innovation Center.

Kim Jeong-hak, president of Jeju Development Corporation, said, "On behalf of the corporation, I thank all the customers who have supported us unwaveringly for the past 23 years," and added, "More than the significance of 300 billion KRW in sales, we will take the lead in becoming a brand that can provide consumers with higher quality, a positive influence that contributes to the environment, and contribute to further growth of the bottled water industry."
