Jeonju City Improves Banwol Samgeori Intersection into a Roundabout
Investment of 280 Million KRW... Phase 1 Improvements to Roundabout, Installation of Raised Crosswalks and Streetlights
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The Banwol Samgeori intersection in Deokjin-gu, Jeonju, which had a high risk of accidents due to its Y-shaped intersection, has been improved into a roundabout.
Jeonju City announced on the 23rd that it has completed the installation of the Banwol Samgeori roundabout, a project that started in February with a total budget of 280 million KRW.
Banwol Samgeori had a Y-shaped irregular structure, which posed a high risk of traffic accidents, and due to frequent operation of large trailer vehicles, structural improvement had been required.
Jeonju City created a single-lane roundabout with a radius of 15 meters to prevent accidents and ensure safety, and installed raised crosswalks at the entrance sections to induce vehicle deceleration.
Additionally, the sidewalks that were previously disconnected near the intersection were connected to nearby apartments, and nine streetlights were installed to brighten the surrounding environment, significantly enhancing pedestrian safety.
Along with this, the area around the roundabout was graded to prevent water accumulation during rainfall, allowing smooth vehicle traffic.
Meanwhile, Jeonju City plans to promote a roundabout installation project in 2022 at Hoseong-dong 2-ga, the intersection of Sagyeori-gil and Jihaengdan-gil.
