[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyeyoung] LG Display is proposing a new daily life by showcasing various transformations of bendable organic light-emitting diode (OLED) at the world’s largest IT and home appliance exhibition, ‘CES 2022’.

LG Display announced on the 23rd that it will unveil its flexible OLED solutions, ‘Virtual Ride’ and ‘Media Chair,’ at CES, which opens on January 5 next year (local time).

‘Virtual Ride’ is a product concept that combines a large OLED screen with exercise equipment. Three 55-inch OLED panels are connected vertically to form an ‘L’-shaped screen extending from the floor to the ceiling. The entire screen is curved to match the user’s viewing angle, allowing an immersive experience as if roaming outdoors.

The curvature radius (degree of bending of a circle) of the section connecting the front of the screen to the ceiling is the lowest among existing large panels (500R). The lower the curvature radius, the more it can bend. LG Display explained that it can implement curved surfaces according to various product forms beyond the limitations of existing displays.

‘Media Chair’ is a personal relaxation space concept combining a 55-inch curved OLED and a reclining sofa to maximize immersion. The curved screen (1500R) is optimized for the user’s viewing angle, and the CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED) function produces three-dimensional sound directly from the screen without separate speakers.

The pivot function allows the screen to be rotated 90 degrees for vertical viewing, enabling customized content consumption, and a touch panel is applied to the sofa’s armrest for enhanced operational convenience.

OLED is a display where each of the hundreds of thousands to millions of pixels emits light by itself without a separate backlight source. In addition to excellent image quality, it enables form factor innovations such as bendable, foldable, and rollable, making it applicable to various fields.

Yeo Junho, Executive Director of Business Development at LG Display, said, “Based on the infinite scalability of OLED, we will continue to provide differentiated customer experiences through convergence with different industries.”

Meanwhile, LG Display will participate in CES 2022 in a hybrid format combining online and offline, setting up a dedicated exhibition hall for clients and showcasing various products including new OLED panels, OLED solutions converged with different fields, and high-end LCDs for IT.
