Hit-and-run by an octogenarian... Arrest warrant requested for a taxi driver in his 70s
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A taxi driver who hit an elderly man in his 80s while walking and fled the scene has been apprehended by the police.
Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced on the 22nd that they have urgently arrested and are investigating a man in his 70s, Mr. A, on charges of hit-and-run causing death under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
According to the police, Mr. A, a taxi driver, is suspected of hitting an elderly man in his 80s who was walking on a road in Bongcheon-dong, Gwanak-gu, at around 6:50 a.m. on the 19th, and fleeing the scene while driving.
Immediately after the accident, Mr. A left the scene without providing assistance, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital following a citizen's report but ultimately passed away.
The police identified Mr. A's taxi vehicle number through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and urgently arrested him at his home in Guro-gu at around 8:34 p.m. on the same day.

A police official stated, "Mr. A was not driving under the influence at the time of the accident," and added, "A warrant for his arrest has been requested."
