Half of Newlywed Couples in Gwangju Are Homeless... Marriage Rate Also Declining Trend

According to the Gwangju Metropolitan City Youth Statistics from the Honam Regional Statistics Office on the 22nd, as of last year, the number of young households (aged 19-39) owning homes was 46,624, with a homeownership rate of 31.3% compared to general households.
Individually, the total number of young homeowners was 58,722, accounting for 14.0% of the total 419,407 homeowners.
Among young newlywed couples, as of 2019, 49.4% were without homes, while 50.6% owned homes.
The housing asset value of these couples was most commonly between 150 million to 300 million KRW, accounting for 43.1%, followed by 60 million to 150 million KRW at 38.9%, and 300 million to 600 million KRW at 11.5%.
The youth marriage rate (number of marriages per 1,000 people) was 20.6 for husbands and 23.6 for wives, showing a decrease of 10.4 and 9.8 respectively compared to ten years ago.
As of last year, the youth population was 414,088, accounting for 28.6% of the total population of 1,450,620.
Among them, 249,000 were employed, with an employment rate of 59.9%, and 19,000 were unemployed, resulting in an unemployment rate of 7.1%.
