Active 5G Network Deployment in Southeast Asia Regions Including Bangladesh and Indonesia
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Huawei is continuously expanding its 5G business in the Southeast Asian region, strengthening its presence.
On the 22nd, Huawei announced that it jointly opened the 'Siriraj World Class 5G Smart Hospital' with the Thailand National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and Siriraj Hospital.
The Siriraj World Class 5G Smart Hospital is the first and largest 5G smart hospital in the ASEAN region. It plans to provide patients with a more efficient and convenient visit experience by introducing Huawei's 5G, cloud, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Huawei and the hospital also plan to establish a joint innovation lab to nurture more than 30 innovative 5G applications starting next year.
On the 13th, Huawei officially launched 5G services in Bangladesh through a partnership with the state-owned telecom company Teletalk. The two companies will first build 5G networks at the National Parliament House, the Prime Minister's Office, and the National Memorial, and plan to gradually expand network coverage to more areas next year.
Huawei is expanding its presence in the Southeast Asian 5G equipment market. Thailand established the first 5G testbed in Southeast Asia with Huawei in 2019. AIS, Thailand's top telecom operator, selected Huawei as the 5G core network builder last year. At the end of last year, Huawei signed a 5G equipment supply contract with Indonesia, and recently has been building 5G infrastructure in Malaysia as well.
