[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Citizens apprehended a man in his 40s who disguised himself as a delivery driver and committed robbery at a private residence after a physical struggle.
The Pyeongtaek Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 21st that they arrested Mr. A on charges including robbery and injury. After the crime, Mr. A attempted to flee by stealing a parked car while wielding a weapon, but citizens blocked the car and used their quick thinking to help capture him.
On the previous day (the 20th) at around 5:50 PM, Mr. A disguised himself as a delivery driver and broke into a home in Hapjeong-dong, Pyeongtaek City. Using a weapon he had prepared, he threatened a couple in their 60s, demanded money, stabbed each of them once, took 200,000 won, and fled.
When Mr. A ran away, the couple’s daughter shouted and ran out to seek help from nearby residents. Upon hearing this, residents Mr. B and Mr. C chased after Mr. A.
Mr. A tried to escape by stealing a nearby parked car, but Mr. B, who works at a car center, blocked the car’s wheels by inserting a screwdriver he was holding into them, preventing the car from moving.
Failing to escape, Mr. A got out of the car and tried to run again but was eventually subdued after a physical struggle with the citizens.
During this process, Mr. C was injured by the weapon Mr. A wielded, but the injury was not serious, according to investigations.
The couple in their 60s, who were taken to the hospital, were also reported to be in stable condition without life-threatening injuries.
During police questioning, Mr. A reportedly stated that he committed the crime due to financial difficulties.
