Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station, Fire Extinguisher Plays Its Proper Role in Fire Safety Facilities
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Fire extinguishers, which are residential fire safety equipment, played their role effectively.
According to Gwangsan Fire Station in Gwangju on the 21st, a fire broke out on the 14th in a house in Seonam-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, when a pot left on a gas stove caught fire.
The homeowner, Mr. A, immediately took a fire extinguisher in the house and attempted to extinguish the fire by himself.
Thanks to the initial suppression using the fire extinguisher, the fire did not escalate into a major blaze.
According to the Act on Fire Prevention, Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities, and Safety Management, residential fire safety equipment must be installed in detached houses, row houses, and multi-family houses (excluding apartments and dormitories).
At least one fire extinguisher must be provided per household and per floor, and at least one fire alarm must be installed in each compartmented room.
Kim Jaeha, the field response team leader, said, "The fire, which could have spread significantly during the early morning hours, was successfully extinguished initially with a fire extinguisher," and added, "I hope all houses install residential fire safety equipment to protect the safety of our families and neighbors."
