On the 21st, Mokpo City stated that this donation was made with the intention of giving back part of the profits generated from operating the live fish auction market at the Mokpo Seafood Distribution Center to the local community. Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative has donated a total of 240 million won over six occasions from 2016 to this year.
Since June 2016, Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative has been solely operating the live fish auction market and has been donating funds for facility maintenance and scholarships.
The live fish auction market was established in 2012 to collect and distribute live fish produced in the southwestern region, promote the fisheries industry, and supply fresh seafood to consumers. Currently, expansion construction is underway.
Chairman Kim Cheong-ryong emphasized, “I hope that the activities of Mokpo Fisheries Cooperative, such as scholarship fund donations and social contributions, will serve as an opportunity to spread a culture of sharing,” adding, “We will continue to support the development of local talent.”
