A Drunken Public Official Causes a Rear-End Collision and Flees... "License Revocation Level"
Four Vehicles Hit While Driving or Parked
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Yeeun] A public official in his 30s who drove under the influence at a level warranting license revocation, collided with multiple vehicles, and fled the scene was apprehended by the police.
The Gwangju Gwangsan Police Station announced on the 20th that they had booked Mr. A, a public official in his 30s affiliated with a district office in Gwangju Metropolitan City, without detention on charges including violation of the Road Traffic Act.
Mr. A is accused of driving a passenger car while intoxicated around 11:45 p.m. on the 17th in the downtown area of Songjeong-dong, Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, and colliding with four vehicles that were either moving or parked.
After hitting the first vehicle at an intersection, he fled approximately 1.7 km without taking any action, subsequently causing accidents by colliding with three other vehicles.
Mr. A was caught by a police patrol car, which was one of the vehicles involved in the collision. It was reported that two police officers riding in the patrol car were also injured.
At the scene, a breathalyzer test conducted by the police showed that Mr. A's blood alcohol concentration was at a level warranting license revocation. It was also confirmed that Mr. A is a team-level public official working in a district of Gwangju.
The police plan to determine the course of action regarding Mr. A's custody after further investigation. If injuries to the drivers of the damaged vehicles are confirmed, charges of hit-and-run causing injury (violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes) are expected to be applied.
