This move is interpreted as an effort to secure data targeting the gaming market, one of the recently emerging metaverse spaces, and to appeal to the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z).
According to the card industry on the 20th, Hyundai Card and BC Card will each partner with Nexon Korea and Smilegate RPG to launch game company-exclusive PLCCs.
Hyundai Card will release the Nexon PLCC optimized for Nexon game users in the first half of next year in collaboration with Nexon Korea. It focuses on enhancing customer benefits by utilizing user activities, preferences, and lifestyles analyzed within the virtual world of games. They will also try new marketing methods such as gamification in the card application and issuance process, offering bonuses when missions are completed. In particular, both companies plan to create new services that help customers' consumption lives through data intelligence technology and data based on PLCC.
Jung Tae-young, Vice Chairman of Hyundai Card, said, "Games are one of the metaverse spaces that have recently emerged as a global topic, and we have high expectations for future collaboration." He added, "Especially within 'Domain Galaxy,' an alliance of Hyundai Card PLCC partners, we hope Nexon actively interacts with other partners to further activate this data ecosystem."
BC Card plans to launch a PLCC specialized for Smilegate RPG's massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'Lost Ark' in the first quarter of next year. The Lost Ark PLCC will provide discount benefits specialized for in-game payments as a basic feature. BC Card aims to offer a payment experience that covers both gaming and real life with a single card by including discount benefits that can be enjoyed without performance conditions in real life. The card design utilizing representative intellectual property (IP) from the game, such as the Mokoko character, is also expected to increase satisfaction among Lost Ark users.
