Jeonnam Jangseong-gun "The Weather Is Cold... But a Warm Year-End Through Sharing"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] As the year-end approaches, residents of Jangseong, Jeonnam, held a sharing event to share warmth with their neighbors.
In Bukha-myeon, Jangseong, the 'Our Village Santa' visited again this year.
The protagonists who became Santas were members of the Bukha-myeon Village Chief Council, Residents' Autonomy Committee, Sports Association, Korean Farmers Association, and Youth Association. The members collected 1 million won in donations to prepare gifts such as underwear, socks, and cultural gift certificates, which were delivered to elderly people with mobility difficulties and families with teenagers.
The Bukha-myeon Saemaeul Leaders' Council rolled up their sleeves for house repair volunteer work. On the morning of the 17th, about 20 members participated and carried out wallpapering and floor replacement work at the home of an elderly household in Daeak-ri, Bukha-myeon. After completing the work, the members also thoroughly cleaned the house, receiving great appreciation.
Song Jeonggwon, who runs a restaurant in Jungpyeong Village, Bukha-myeon, recently visited the Bukha-myeon Administrative Welfare Center and donated 80 boxes of noodles (worth about 1.2 million won). Bukha-myeon plans to distribute the donated items to neighbors in need.
In Donghwa-myeon, the 'Village Elders' took the lead in sharing. The Donghwa-myeon Senior Citizens Association visited the Donghwa-myeon Administrative Welfare Center on the 15th and donated 24 bags of 10kg white rice. The Donghwa-myeon Senior Citizens Association has been donating rice every year at the end of the year to help neighbors in need.
To withstand the cold weather, the homes of neighbors needing repairs were taken care of by the 'Donghwa-myeon Yellow City Welfare Mobile Unit.' Over two days, on the 2nd and 10th, the Welfare Mobile Unit visited four single elderly households and worked hard on wallpapering, floor replacement, and installing simple toilets in bathrooms.
The Yellow City Welfare Mobile Unit is a 'Welfare Dream Team' composed of experts in fields such as electricity and water supply, as well as volunteers. Since its establishment in 2019, it has continued passionate activities every year.
In Jangseong-eup, the Saemaeul Women's Association took the initiative to share gochujang with neighbors. On the 15th, the Women's Association held a 'Love Gochujang Sharing' event and carefully made gochujang using ingredients they prepared themselves. The 250 jars of gochujang prepared this way were delivered to marginalized neighbors in the area. The gochujang sharing event by the Jangseong-eup Saemaeul Women's Association has been ongoing for six years this year.
Yoo Duseok, Jangseong County Governor, said, “The humble and beautiful heart to share starting from myself is a great force in creating a happy Yellow City,” and added, “I deeply thank everyone who worked hard to be with their neighbors.”
