Busan New COVID-19 Cases Remain in the 300s for Five Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] The daily number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Busan has exceeded 300 for five consecutive days. This trend appears to be influenced by cluster infections occurring in language institutes and schools.
Busan City announced on the 18th that 362 people tested positive for COVID-19 on the 17th. One patient died, increasing the total death toll to 228.
Among the 362 new confirmed cases, the source of infection for 138 people was unknown. Additional confirmed cases continued from existing cluster infection cases such as a hospital in Nam-gu, an elementary school and indoor sports facility in Saha-gu, and a hospital and market in Sasang-gu. New cluster infections occurred at a language institute in Busanjin-gu and a middle school in Yeongdo-gu.
Recently, the daily confirmed cases in the Busan area increased from 206 on the 13th to 343 on the 14th, rising by more than 100. Since then, the daily number of confirmed cases has remained above 300. Even on the weekend of the 18th, 348 additional cases were confirmed by 2 p.m.
