Gwangju Seo-gu 'Always Youth Silver Singing Contest' Successfully Concluded
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, held the year-end final stage of the ‘Always Youthful! Seo-gu Silver Singing Contest’ on the 15th at Deulbul Hall on the 2nd floor of Seo-gu Office.
According to Seo-gu on the 17th, the event was organized to alleviate the sense of alienation and depression among the elderly who have been unable to properly use senior facilities for a long time due to COVID-19.
The venue strictly adhered to COVID-19 prevention rules such as social distancing and mask-wearing, and entry was only allowed for those who had completed the second dose of vaccination.
Seo-gu held a total of 20 preliminary and final rounds over the past three months to select the singing champion of this Silver Singing Contest, resulting in elderly participants with both singing skills and talent advancing to the finals.
The final event was broadcast live in real-time through the YouTube channel ‘Seo-gu Silver Singing Contest,’ and non-face-to-face online cheering via real-time chat also attracted attention.
The prestigious grand prize was awarded to Elderly Lee Nam-seong from Sangmu 2-dong, who sang Ko Kwang-seok’s ‘A Story of a 60s Elderly Couple.’
Elderly Lee Nam-seong said, “I did not expect to win the grand prize and just sang with the mindset of enjoying it, so I am very happy to receive the grand prize.”
A Seo-gu official said, “We are happy and proud that the Silver Singing Contest has become an opportunity for the elderly to overcome COVID blues and live a lively daily life.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu plans to promote various projects next year to comfort the hearts of elderly people exhausted by COVID and support a healthy life.
