'Mikta' Joint Statement of Solidarity Expressing Concern over the Humanitarian Situation in Afghanistan
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Foreign ministers from MIKTA, a consultative group consisting of five countries including Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, and Australia, issued a joint statement on the 17th expressing concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and showing solidarity.
In the statement, they expressed "concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan" and stated, "MIKTA stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and will cooperate to support effective humanitarian responses."
They continued, "The widespread reports of human rights violations against women and girls are deeply troubling," and pointed out that "special attention and guarantees are needed for vulnerable groups such as women, children, and minorities in Afghanistan during humanitarian response efforts."
They also added, "We support international community and international organizations such as the United Nations' support programs aimed at improving the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan."
