In the master's science category, graduate student Eom Suyeon from the Department of Applied Chemistry and Food Engineering received the Excellence Award.
The competition was hosted by Busan City and the Busan Science and Technology Council on the 8th.
Cho Hyunwoo, majoring in Applied Chemistry in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Dong-Eui University, used the gene-editing technology CRISPR/Cas9 to cut out the SIRT7 gene of malignant melanoma.
He conducted research analyzing the excised gene to elucidate the melanin synthesis signaling pathway and was selected for the Excellence Award in the undergraduate science category.
Cho Ain, from the same major, conducted research on the anti-metastatic effects of Silibinin, the active component of Silymarin extracted from milk thistle, which has antioxidant properties, and received the Excellence Award in the undergraduate science category.
Kang Donggwan, majoring in Mechanical Engineering in the Department of Mechanical and Automotive Robotics Parts Engineering, observed the droplet deposition phenomena under various conditions based on liquid properties, focusing on the topic of ‘Deposition Phenomena of Flexible Thin Films and Microdroplets.’
After observation, Kang Donggwan identified differences in the deposition processes under each condition and won the Excellence Award in the undergraduate engineering category.
Professor Lee Sangmin, majoring in Automotive Engineering, said, “Kang Donggwan has participated in research activities in the automotive microfluidics laboratory for over two years and has produced many achievements.”
The Busan Future Scientist Awards, hosted by the Busan Science and Technology Council, have been held annually since 2005, and this year’s ceremony was conducted online.
