McHappy Day is a charity bazaar event held by McDonald's worldwide. McDonald's Korea raises donation funds every year through charity auctions and limited-edition merchandise sales during McHappy Day. Due to the spread of COVID-19, this year, like last year, the event was held in a non-face-to-face manner for safety, with participation from McDonald's employees, franchisees, and partner companies. The donations collected through the McHappy Day event, combined with a portion of the sales proceeds from the children's menu 'Happy Meal' and the year-end limited menu 'Lucky Burger,' amounted to a record-high total of 530 million KRW.
McDonald's Korea delivered the raised donation to Korea RMHC on the day, and the funds will be used to provide residential convenience and support for children undergoing treatment and their families at the 'Ronald McDonald House,' enabling them to focus on their treatment. As the largest sponsor of Korea RMHC, McDonald's Korea continuously supports Korea RMHC through various means, including donating a portion of the Happy Meal sales proceeds annually and placing donation boxes in stores nationwide. In July, they also held an internal fundraising event called the 'McWalking Challenge,' which accumulated 50.16 million KRW in donations based on employees' step counts.
The 'Ronald McDonald House' is a home that helps children requiring long-term treatment, such as for pediatric cancer, and their families stay together near the hospital. It currently operates in 375 locations across 62 countries worldwide.
