View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] As the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) intensifies, confirmed cases continued to occur across the country on the 16th.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 9 p.m. on that day, a total of 5,901 confirmed cases tested positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
Compared to 5,803 cases recorded at the same time a week earlier on the 9th, this is 98 more cases.
New confirmed cases were 4,219 (71.5%) in the metropolitan area and 1,682 (28.5%) in non-metropolitan areas.

By city and province, there were 2,504 in Seoul, 1,166 in Gyeonggi, 549 in Incheon, 370 in Busan, 203 in Chungnam, 169 in Gyeongbuk, 159 in Daegu, 158 in Daejeon, 154 in Gyeongnam, 121 in Gangwon, 83 in Chungbuk, 67 in Jeonbuk, 60 in Jeonnam, 52 in Ulsan, 42 in Gwangju, 35 in Jeju, and 9 in Sejong. Thus, confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces.
