Xi Jinping, "Certain forces brutally trample on international relations norms"
Putin, "Plot to incite Russia-China separation will fail, supports One China"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] Chinese President Xi Jinping fiercely criticized the United States, saying that "certain international forces are interfering in the internal affairs of China and Russia, brutally trampling on international law and norms of international relations."
According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency on the 15th, President Xi stated this during a video summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasizing that China and Russia must take more joint measures to more effectively safeguard their mutual security interests.
During the summit, Presidents Xi and Putin focused their dialogue on Sino-Russian cooperation against the United States.
President Xi stressed that "we firmly oppose hegemonic behavior and Cold War mentality," and that China and Russia must strengthen coordination and cooperation on international issues.
In response, President Putin said, "We firmly oppose the formation of small clubs (such as AUKUS and other U.S.-led alliances) in the Asia-Pacific region," adding, "All conspiracies to divide and incite the relationship between Russia and China will not succeed."
He further expressed, "Russia is willing to strengthen communication with China," lending support to President Xi, who is confronting U.S. President Joe Biden.
President Putin also mentioned the Taiwan issue. He stated, "We firmly oppose any forces that use the Taiwan issue to harm China's interests," affirming support for China's 'One China' principle.
Presidents Xi and Putin also exchanged views on democracy. President Xi said, "Democracy is a beautiful pursuit of all humanity and a shared value, as well as the right of all peoples of every country," adding, "International issues should be negotiated by all countries, and the democratization of international relations and the practice of genuine multilateralism are the prevailing trends." He continued, "China is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with Russia to guide the international community in establishing a correct view of democracy and safeguarding the legitimate democratic rights of all countries," addressing President Putin.
In response, President Putin said, "The current Russia-China relationship is at its best historical moment," and "Russia and China have played an important role in effectively resolving international regional issues and consolidating the international order based on international law."
China and Russia agreed on the need for cooperation in advanced technology and science fields and decided to collaborate.
President Xi proposed, "Let's strengthen cooperation in advanced science and technology," suggesting collaboration in new energy sectors such as renewable energy and nuclear power.
President Putin said, "Russia will continue to strengthen cooperation with China in the fields of economy and trade, oil and gas, finance, and aerospace," expressing willingness to promote further cooperation between China's Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union.
Presidents Xi and Putin also agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the United Nations (UN) Security Council, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and BRICS.
Meanwhile, President Putin reconfirmed his attendance at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics in February next year. He said, "I have always opposed attempts to politicize sports," and stated that he would attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics.
