Baro Market is a direct agricultural product transaction market established to allow consumers to purchase fresh and safe agricultural products at reasonable prices, while enabling farmers to stably supply their produce and increase farm income.
This year, it has been operating every Saturday and Sunday since March 27 at the Gyeongbuk Agricultural Resources Management Institute, selling about 800 types of agricultural products such as fruits, vegetables, and livestock products directly cultivated by about 60 farms in the region.
All items are sold at prices on average more than 20% cheaper than general marts, with a point accumulation system in place and special sales events for each product category linked with producer organizations.
The market also expands city and county day events, conducts agricultural product experience events to educate children about the value of agriculture, and carries out online promotions.
Since its opening until this year, 100,281 people have visited, with sales reaching 2.7 billion KRW and 9,297 registered members on its own app.
Sales exceeded this year’s target of 2.2 billion KRW by 23%, increasing by 125% compared to last year, and the average daily sales rose by 11 million KRW to 37 million KRW compared to last year.
Last year, people aged 50 and above accounted for 77% of Baro Market visitors, but this year, those in their 30s and 40s make up 45%, lowering the main visiting age group.
The city analyzed that operating a small flea market within the market and selling instant food and accessories at affordable prices helped attract young housewives.
