Samsung Electronics Ranks No.1 in Smartphone Market Share in 43 Countries in Q3
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics has been ranked number one in the smartphone market share in 43 countries during the third quarter of this year.
According to market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 15th, Samsung Electronics ranked first in 43 countries including South Korea, Brazil, Russia, Egypt, and Germany in the third quarter of this year.
Samsung Electronics' market share was higher mainly in countries where products equipped with the Android operating system (OS) are dominant. In South Korea, it showed an overwhelming market share of 85%, and also exceeded 50% market share in countries such as Romania, Venezuela, and Brazil.
Counterpoint Research analyzed that Apple’s loyal customers dominate in the United States and some European countries, while Xiaomi is showing aggressive moves in India, pushing Samsung from the top spot. Additionally, in Mexico, after LG Electronics withdrew from the market, Motorola expanded its presence and pushed Samsung to second place.
Yoon Jeong Lee, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, stated, "Samsung's global smartphone market share in the third quarter recorded 20%, showing a recovery compared to the second quarter, which suffered production disruptions in Vietnam and India due to COVID-19 lockdowns. However, compared to the same period last year, the market share fell by 2 percentage points, and the number of countries where Samsung holds the top spot is gradually decreasing."
