Gwangju Shinsegae Launches 'Hope Project' for Underprivileged Groups in the Region During Year-End and New Year Period
19 Years of the 'Hope Santa Expedition'... Voluntary Participation of Employees and Delivery of Over 100 Million Won in the 'Hope Delivery Fund'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Gwangju Shinsegae Co., Ltd. (CEO Lee Dong-hoon) announced on the 15th that it held the launch ceremony of the hope project "Hope Santa Expedition" for the underprivileged in the region to celebrate the year-end and New Year holidays.
The "Gwangju Shinsegae Hope Santa Expedition" is Gwangju Shinsegae's representative social contribution activity that started in 2003 and is now in its 19th year.
It practices social responsibility as a company that opens a culture of sharing and coexistence in the local community as a leading local company by delivering practical help, warm hope, and happiness to the underprivileged spending the cold winter.
The event held at 10 a.m. in the first-floor plaza of Gwangju Shinsegae was attended by Seo Dae-seok, Mayor of Seo-gu, Kim Eun-young, Head of the Gwangju Regional Headquarters of the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, and executives and employees of Gwangju Shinsegae.
Through the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, a hope delivery fund of about 100 million won was also delivered this year, prepared through the voluntary participation of executives and employees and the company’s matching grant.
The hope delivery fund is used every year to support monthly sponsorships and daily necessities for underprivileged families.
Part of the delivered fund will be used to help 50 beneficiary households in the Gwangju area spend the winter warmly by providing 1,000 briquettes, 5,000 liters of heating oil, and heating expenses. Due to COVID-19, these will be delivered through purchasing companies as in 2020, rather than direct delivery.
Lee Dong-hoon, CEO of Gwangju Shinsegae, said, “We hold the ‘Hope Santa Expedition’ event every year at the end of the year to repay the love and trust received from local residents. Although it is a difficult time for everyone due to the prolonged COVID-19, we hope that the underprivileged can spend a warmer winter.”
