Three Additional Designated Hospitals for COVID-19 Critical Patient Care Centers Added
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] This week, six additional infectious disease-dedicated nursing hospitals will be designated in the Seoul metropolitan area to treat elderly bedridden and dementia patients among COVID-19 confirmed cases.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH) announced on the 14th that six more infectious disease-dedicated nursing hospitals will be operated in the Seoul metropolitan area. Infectious disease-dedicated nursing hospitals are medical institutions that specialize in caring for patients who do not require medical treatment due to mild COVID-19 symptoms but need care due to issues such as being bedridden. Accordingly, the number of beds available to treat such patients will increase by 821.
The six newly operated infectious disease-dedicated nursing hospitals are Songpa Grand Nursing Hospital and Seongbuk Cham Senior Specialized Hospital in Seoul; Singal Baekse Nursing Hospital, Hanae Nursing Hospital, and Central Nursing Hospital in Gyeonggi; and Geumgang Nursing Hospital in Incheon. Songpa Grand Nursing Hospital and Singal Baekse Nursing Hospital began operations the day before, and the remaining four will start operations sequentially.
As of the 10th, there were seven infectious disease-dedicated nursing hospitals nationwide with a total of 1,199 beds, but with this designation, the number will increase to 13. In the Seoul metropolitan area, the number of dedicated nursing hospitals will increase from five (with a total of 833 beds) to 11.

About a year ago, there were around 10 base dedicated hospitals, but now the number has increased to 21. Among these, five hospitals utilize all their beds exclusively for treating COVID-19 patients.
