The Sosa Police Station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, announced on the 13th that they had arrested Mr. A (29) on charges of murder and attempted murder.
The Bucheon Branch of the Incheon District Court (Chief Judge Jo Eun-ah, in charge of warrants) conducted a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review) that morning and issued an arrest warrant for Mr. A, judging that "the crime is serious and there is a risk of flight."
Mr. A is accused of assaulting a couple in their 70s with a blunt weapon in the hallway on the third floor of a three-story townhouse in Bucheon at around 5:45 a.m. on the 12th, killing the husband, Mr. B, and attempting to kill the wife, Ms. C.
Ms. C, who suffered a severe head injury and collapsed due to Mr. A's assault, was transported to a nearby hospital and is receiving inpatient treatment, but is reportedly still unconscious.
The police responded to a report from Mr. A's mother, who said "my son is causing a disturbance," and arrested Mr. A at the scene.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A, who had been living on the second floor of the townhouse since last year, was asked by the building owner couple, Mr. and Mrs. B, who live on the third floor, to "keep quiet" around July to August.
The B couple had received complaints from other residents on the second floor that "the neighboring unit is noisy," and they warned Mr. A. Harboring resentment over this, Mr. A took a blunt weapon from his home, went up to the third floor, and committed the crime against the B couple.
Mr. A, who has a history of mental illness, reportedly had not received any significant medication treatment in the past year. Mr. A's mother told the police, "My son is sensitive to tone of voice, and it seems he took to heart what the building owner said at the time."
Meanwhile, Mr. A admitted to the police that he committed the crime on the grounds that "the B couple was harassing me."
