[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] The Changwon City Council in Gyeongnam has adopted a proposal to allow parking and stopping during specific time periods even in school zones, and plans to send it to government ministries and political parties.
On the 13th, during the 2nd plenary session of the 109th extraordinary meeting, the Changwon City Council announced that it had adopted the proposal titled "Legislation to Designate Time-Based Parking and Stopping Zones in School Zones."
The council members stated, "Before strengthening the school zone laws, sufficient measures to resolve residents' parking difficulties should be prepared, but in the absence of any measures, on-street parking lots were abolished and parking and stopping were prohibited. Residents who immediately lost parking spaces find it difficult to find alternative parking, leaving them no choice but to commit illegal acts. This has also caused serious side effects such as collective complaints from residents and local merchants."
They continued, "Our city is piloting the designation of time-based parking and stopping zones within school zones," but pointed out, "However, the related procedural implementation takes considerable time, and it is insufficient to solve the parking difficulties."
They added, "It is necessary to realistically allow flexible parking and stopping within school zones from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.," and strongly urged, "We strongly urge the legislation of designating time-based parking and stopping zones within school zones."
