China Firmly Opposes "Interference in Internal Affairs and Damage to Interests" Amid G7 Concerns
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Regarding the discussion of China's Xinjiang, Taiwan, and Hong Kong issues at the G7 Foreign and Development Ministers' Meeting, the Chinese government stated, "We firmly oppose the G7's interference in China's internal affairs, tarnishing China's image, and undermining China's interests."
Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made this remark during a regular briefing on the 13th when asked to comment on the chair's statement issued by UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss. On the 12th, the G7 released a chair's statement at the Foreign and Development Ministers' Meeting expressing "concern over China's coercive economic policies."
Spokesperson Wang pointed out, "The United States and the United Kingdom account for 23% and 18% respectively of global COVID-19 infections and deaths," adding, "We hope they focus on efforts to prevent more people from losing their lives to COVID-19 rather than discussing democracy and human rights on the international stage."
