[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do is accelerating the provision of safe food through the operation of the Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Center, which is responsible for ensuring the safety of agricultural products.

According to the county on the 13th, the Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Center, which opened last month within the Agricultural Technology Center with a total area of 970㎡ and three floors above ground, will independently verify pesticide residues to strengthen the safety of local agricultural products and secure consumer trust.

The center is equipped with a comprehensive testing room on the first floor, a pesticide residue analysis room on the second floor, and a plant hospital, rice quality control room, and education room on the third floor.

In particular, the advanced analytical equipment features high sensitivity, enabling accurate and rapid detection of pesticides remaining at trace concentrations.

The liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer can analyze 207 pesticide residue components, and the gas chromatography-mass spectrometer can simultaneously analyze 113 pesticide residue components.

Twenty-seven types of experimental equipment, including homogenizers, large shakers, and centrifuges for sample pretreatment, have been established to provide a foundation for supporting pesticide residue analysis services.

At the Haenam-gun Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Center, through pesticide residue inspections requested by farms, it is expected that not only will the management of the Positive List System (PLS) for pesticide residues be ensured, but also continuous monitoring of agricultural products supplied to local food stores and school public meals will prevent the distribution of non-compliant agricultural products by shipping only safe agricultural products.

County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “We will strive to improve the reliability of Haenam-gun agricultural products by thoroughly managing to prevent the production and shipment of non-compliant agricultural products so that consumers can trust and consume agricultural products produced in Haenam-gun,” and added, “It is expected that the operation of this Agricultural Product Safety Analysis Center will play a significant role in providing safe food.”
