Daejeon City Completely Cancels This Year's New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Event
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 12th that it will completely cancel the ‘2021 New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony’ scheduled to be held at the South Gate Square of City Hall on December 31.
Originally, the city had been preparing to hold the New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony on the last day of this year, the Year of the Black Tiger (Im In-nyeon).
However, the city explained that due to the recent resurgence of COVID-19 and the emergence of the Omicron variant, it was unavoidable to fully cancel the event.
Daejeon also canceled the New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony last year due to COVID-19.

Im Jae-jin, Director of the Autonomy and Decentralization Bureau of the city, said, “We had been preparing the New Year's Eve Bell Ringing Ceremony in line with the phased recovery of daily life, but as the spread of COVID-19 has not subsided, we had no choice but to cancel the event. We ask for the understanding of the citizens and urge everyone to participate in efforts to curb the spread of infection.”
