Nowon-gu Offers Comfort and Hope with Sparkling 'Shade Tree'!
Summer Shade Tents Transform into Trees Offering Hope and Comfort... Operated Until Late February Next Year... Automatically Light Up According to Streetlight Operating Hours
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will install and operate shade tent trees to provide warm comfort and hope to residents during the year-end and New Year holidays.
The shade tent tree project involves folding the shade tents, which are usually used in summer, during winter and covering them with a protective cover for safety. On top of this cover, a specially made tree cover is added to transform it into a Christmas tree.
The shade tent trees are installed at four traffic island locations at the Nowon Station intersection, where foot traffic is the heaviest. The trees will be operated until the end of February next year. They automatically turn on and off from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. the next day, synchronized with the streetlight blinking times.
The shade tent trees are decorated with golden five-pointed stars symbolizing hope. Next to the shade tent trees, tree-shaped models adorned with silver snowflake patterns, red and gold balls, and blue LEDs create a festive year-end atmosphere.
The remaining 101 foldable shade tents will be safely stored during the winter season with protective covers designed to match the image of Nowon-gu.
The district announced that it will not operate the luminaires that decorated Nowon Station’s cultural street last year. This is to avoid crowded environments as COVID-19 is spreading again.
