Busan Office of Education, Integrity Level Rises One Step Compared to Last Year
Zero Corruption Experience in External Integrity
Efforts to Establish Anti-Corruption and Integrity Culture
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Trainee Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education received an overall integrity rating of Grade 3 in the 2021 Public Institution Integrity Evaluation announced by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
The evaluation results exceeded the national average for education offices, placing it in the upper-middle tier among metropolitan and provincial offices of education nationwide.
No education office received a Grade 1 rating, and five provincial-level education offices were rated Grade 2.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education’s external integrity rating improved by one grade from last year to Grade 3, with no corruption experiences measured.
The education office stated, “These results are analyzed to be the effect of efforts prioritizing the ‘elimination of corruption-inducing factors,’ such as strengthening disciplinary standards for corrupt actors, focused inspections of contractors in specific sectors, and gathering opinions.”
The internal integrity rating, which evaluates internal staff on anti-corruption systems and budget execution integrity, remained at Grade 3, the same as last year.
Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to analyze the integrity evaluation results to prepare improvement measures for next year and will operate an integrity promotion planning team led by the Superintendent to implement strong integrity policies.
