Namwon-si, Jirisan Baemsagol Selected as an Eco-Friendly Recommended Travel Destination

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk (Mayor Lee Hwan-joo) announced on the 10th that Jirisan Baemsagol has been selected as an ‘Eco-friendly Recommended Travel Destination’ by the Korea Tourism Organization and the National Tourism Organization Council.

The eco-friendly recommended travel destination discovery and selection project is a program that selects and promotes excellent travel destinations categorized into ▲carbon-neutral practice destinations ▲eco-friendly value spreading destinations ▲eco-friendly ecological experience destinations. The city was selected in the ‘carbon-neutral practice destination’ category.

The eco-friendly recommended travel destinations selected this time total 31 nationwide. Among them, Jirisan Baemsagol is a 14 km valley located on the northern slope of the mountain flowing from Banya Peak to Banseon in Jirisan, Namwon City. It is considered one of the valleys with the most outstanding valley beauty among the various valleys within Jirisan National Park.

In particular, Waun Village, located at the end of the trekking course along the Baemsagol Valley, is home to the Millennium Pine, designated as Natural Monument No. 424, offering abundant sights to see.

Moreover, Jirisan National Park plans to operate various programs aimed at creating eco-friendly travel destinations in harmony with nature for visitors, including ▲1% Challenge Toward Carbon Neutrality ▲No Wet Wipes! Yang In-hwan, Director of Tourism, said, “With Jirisan Baemsagol being selected as an eco-friendly recommended travel destination, we will focus on promoting Jirisan Baemsagol along with the Millennium Pine in Jirisan, which was selected as a winter safe tourism destination, so that tourists visiting Namwon can find a safe and eco-friendly travel destination.”
