Haenam-gun, Idea Contest for Practicing ESG in Daily Life

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Jeonnam Haenam-gun is conducting a lifestyle ESG idea contest until the 20th to discover and spread tasks that residents can practice ESG in daily life together.

On the 10th, ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance, embodying the philosophy of transparent management for sustainable development.

Starting with companies and gradually spreading to public sector administration, Haenam-gun ranked first in Jeonnam with an overall excellent (A) grade in the nationwide basic local government ESG evaluation last October, and received the only top (S) grade in the governance category among county-level units nationwide.

Building on these achievements, the county plans to expand residents' consensus on ESG ethical management and discover practical tasks for sustainable county administration development through activities that enhance social value.

This contest aims to discover lifestyle ESG practice tasks that residents can implement, finalize the top 10 tasks through a survey, and then spread ESG values such as overcoming the climate crisis together with residents through campaigns and education.

Idea proposals can be submitted online via the National Petition System and the county website, and also in writing through the county planning office and eup/myeon offices. Selected excellent proposals will receive awards of up to 3 million KRW.

Haenam-gun plans to provide education for public officials and residents to increase understanding of ESG, and to carry out policy development and resident participation practice campaigns to spread ESG. Additionally, with a united will, a ‘Haenam-type ESG Vision Proclamation Ceremony’ will be held at the beginning of 2022.
