[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 9th, a COVID-19 case was confirmed within the campaign committee of Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.
On that day, the Democratic Party campaign committee informed reporters via text message that one of the employees working in the candidate's spouse office tested positive for COVID-19. The confirmed case is an office worker and is known not to have accompanied the candidate's spouse, Kim Hye-kyung, on site.
The Democratic Party campaign committee stated, "There has been no contact with the candidate's spouse for over a week," and explained, "We have suspended activities of campaign committee members who had close contact possibilities, such as those in the spouse office and the secretariat, and have conducted PCR tests and instructed them to stay at home."
They added, "Notification texts were sent to all 1,006 campaign staff, and all personnel in the 8th floor secretariat were sent home," and "contacts from other headquarters were also instructed to stay at home after PCR testing."
Furthermore, they said, "We plan to disinfect the 5th-floor meeting room used by the confirmed case and the entire 8th floor," and added, "We will implement stringent measures according to quarantine guidelines, including epidemiological investigations by health authorities."
