Government Discusses Carbon Tax for Climate Change Response at G20 Finance Deputy Ministers Meeting
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The government will participate in discussions on the introduction of a carbon tax in response to global climate change.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on the 8th that Yoon Taesik, Deputy Director-General for International Economic Affairs (Vice Minister), will discuss this matter at the G20 Finance Deputy Ministers and Central Bank Deputy Governors Meeting, held virtually over two days starting from the 9th.
Comprising a total of six sessions, this meeting will be attended by representatives from G20 member and invited countries, as well as international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the World Bank (WB), to review major international tax issues including the carbon tax and follow-up measures related to the prior digital tax agreement.
As the co-chair country representative of the G20 International Financial Architecture Working Group, Deputy Director-General Yoon will deliver a leading statement urging support for the economic structural transformation of the international community and explain South Korea's position on issues such as the carbon tax.
