Daegum Launches Prosecutor Policy Advisory Committee... 11 Academic and Legal Experts Appointed as Advisory Members
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] The Supreme Prosecutors' Office established an advisory committee on the 8th to gain broad consultation from academia and the legal community, aiming to formulate and promote prosecution policies that align with the changed system for realizing a people-centered prosecution.
On the morning of the same day, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office held the inaugural meeting of the Prosecution Policy Advisory Committee at the 15th-floor conference room of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office building in Seocho-dong, Seoul, after appointing Chairman Jo Gyun-seok and the advisory members and presenting them with appointment letters.
Professor Jo Gyun-seok of Ewha Womans University Law School (Criminal Law) was appointed as the chairman of the Prosecution Policy Advisory Committee. Ten advisory members were appointed, including Jung Woong-seok, president of the Criminal Procedure Law Association and dean of the College of Social Sciences at Seokyeong University; Professor Lee Hyo-won of Seoul National University Law School (Constitutional Law); Professor Kim Seong-ryong of Kyungpook National University Law School (Criminal Law); Professor Ryu Kyung-eun of Korea University Law School (Criminal Law); Research Fellow Seung Jae-hyun of the Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy; and lawyers Bae Bo-yoon, Im Seon-sook, Lee Wan-soo, Yang Hong-seok, and Kim Ye-won.
Prosecutor General Kim Oh-soo emphasized at the appointment ceremony, "In the new criminal justice procedures, the prosecution must take on new roles and keep pace with the changing systems and institutions in aspects such as investigative practices and organizational culture."
He continued, "To this end, we will continuously reflect and communicate with an open mind," and requested, "I ask the committee members to pool their wisdom so that prosecution policies can be established and promoted with the people at the center."
